Homework/ Book Club with Ms. Herczeg

Homework/Book Club

As a student in Mrs. Held’s fourth grade class your child has the opportunity to participate in a homework/book club. Daily we have been working on homework needs and reading towards their book goal. Encourage your child to utilize eating lunch with the teacher to:
  • work on a specific area of homework need
  • read towards their book goal
  • catch up on Study Island
  • Kidbiz or extra math

If you have any questions or specific requests, please email Mrs. Held at cheld@qcsd.org, to relay any of your questions and concerns to me.

Thank You,
Ms. Herczeg

February News

Here is a "CATCH-ALL" posting with recent news and upcoming events:

VALENTINES will be exchanged this Thursday, Feb. 11th.  Class lists were sent out to make addressing cards easy!

PLEASE RETURN SIGNED        REPORT CARD ENVELOPES!

HOME READING is important!  Check to be sure your child is reading each night.  They should be listing titles in their PLANNER/AGENDA book.  Keep track of book numbers.... we will celebrate when the 25 book goal is met!

MATH FACTS-  Check with your child on his/her math fact status.  By this point, students should ALL have met the multiplication and division goal.  Many students have surpassed their math fact goals-- congratulations!!   FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT, please pull out the math fact cards and review for a few minutes each night.  THANKS.

MATH 4 Class just finished the unit on measurement and decimals.  NEXT, we will review multiplication, division and study angle measurements.  Then on to FRACTIONS!

PSSA is coming in APRIL.  We WILL be ready!!

MATH PLUS Class is almost finished the unit on data and measurement.  The are currently working on their TINY HOUSE PROJECT.  Ask them about their innovative design!  NEXT, we will focus on Geometry.

*PUSH YOUR LEARNING- I would like to see all students get on the IREADY program at least two times a week at home.

PSSA is coming in APRIL.  We WILL be ready!!

A MUSICAL PLAY is in the works for Social Studies.  We are hoping to hold our performance for the public in Mid-May.  Stay tuned!  This year's theme  is US History and Immigration.  Help will be needed for sets, props, set-up and tear down.  Let Mr. Wysocki know if you are interested.  (costumes are not going to be a big need for this production since most of the play will take place in the present.)

SCIENCE-- Finishing a unit on MOTION and DESIGN.  Thanks, Cody, for sharing your awesome ROBOTIC PITCHING UNIT!  It looked like something from STAR WARS!  Ask your child to tell you some things they know about FORCE and MOTION.   Next unit is "Land and Water: Forces That Shape the Earth"

RELA PLUS - Mr. Wysocki's class is starting a unit called, "Nature Can Amaze Us"   We will be reading 4 novels including titles such as Zane and the HurricaneThe Giant WaveNight of the Twisters, and Everest.    The students just finished a study of ARTS and ARTISTS... Here are some pictures of their culminating multimedia slide show, shared last week with Mrs. Held's students.  GREAT JOB GUYS!

RELA4 Over the next couple weeks, we will be focusing on reading and understanding informational texts.  In guided reading students have been close reading and working creating good paragraph text dependent responses by using RACER.

In WRITING we are focusing writing literary essays or TDA (text dependent analysis). Students are focusing on using RACER and 4 SQUARE to create a 5 paragraph essay.  Currently, we are working in groups to annotate various articles on technology.  The groups are collaborating to work through the process of writing a 5 paragraph essay!

Welcome Miss. Herczeg
